(AGI) - Treviso, 24 Dec. - Forty-year-old carpenter and
supermarket worker Michele Fusaro was the kidnapper of
42-year-old Iole Tassitani, daughter of the Castelfranco Veneto
notary public whose remains were found in the garage of the man
arrested, cut to pieces and divided up into three rubbish bags.
Fusaro had been followed constantly by carabineri for many
days. Yesterday evening investigators decided to take action
and arrested the suspect, to then search his house. To prevent
any clashes or dangerous situations, Fusaro was arrested by the
Treviso operative unit while walking in the streets late in the
evening in Bassano del Grappa. The man, though very surprised
and frightened, did not put up any resistance. Shortly
thereafter the remains were found in his garage. As reported by
Colonel Paolo Nardone, Treviso commander, Fusaro's garage was
very clean and well-ordered, but three large bags were
immediately seen. The worst suspicions were thereafter
confirmed when parts of the woman's body were found cut into
pieces. Venice prosecutor Vittorio Borraccetti did not want any
possible reconstructions to be made yet, since investigations
are still underway. "At the moment," he said, "we cannot
confirm that we are dealing with an organized group. We do not
even know whether the woman was killed immediately after being
taken hostage or later." The autopsy is being carried out and
Fusaro has been taken to a Vicenza jail while awaiting
interrogation by the investigative judge for the upholding of
the arrest warrant. According to what has been reported, he has
not admitted his responsibility and felt ill during
questioning.
